Biography of Rev. Charles E. Turner

Born to Pastor James C. Turner, Sr. and Mrs. Donzetta Webb Turner, in Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Charles Turner is the second of three sons that continued the family tradition and followed the call of God to the pulpit.

Earning his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics/Finance from Tennessee State University, he proved to be an avid scholar and continued his studies, earning a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, with a focus on Transformational Leadership.

Acknowledging his strong call to serve, Dr. Turner gave his first sermon in August 1998 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, TN.  In February 1999, he became a licensed minister and in September 2004 was officially ordained.  Dr. Turner had the opportunity to serve as the Minister of Evangelism & Discipleship at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas from January 2005- March 2007, after which he moved to Hartford, Connecticut and continued to shepherd God’s sheep, serving as pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church from April 2007 until May 2012.

It was in June 2012, that Dr. Turner began his pastorate of New Pleasant Gove Missionary Baptist Church.  In addition to serving the NPG Missionary Baptist Church community, he serves on the board of The Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation.  In addition to fulfilling his pastoral and community duties, Dr. Turner is also a published author.  His article entitled, Rooted and Grounded: A Word for New Pastors, was published in the Winter/Spring 2012 edition of the African American Pulpit.

Dr. Turner is married to Markesha Turner also of Nashville, TN. Mrs. Turner is a Tennessee State University graduate and holds a law degree from Western New England University School of Law. They are the parents of one daughter, Chloe Elise.
